Spices of Life

{ Living Life by Ear }

One of the most important things a couple can experience together is passionate sex. A good sex life can not only strengthen a relationship, but it reduces stress. The endorphins released during sex can help to alleviate depression. What do you do when your sexual relations are less than explosive because the explosion came too soon? Believe it or not, this situation is much more common than you think. Premature ejaculation is the most frequently occurring sexual dysfunction in men. Up to 30 percent of men experience this medical issue on a regular basis, and most, if not all, men will experience premature ejaculation at least one in their lifetime.

Premature ejaculation occurs when a man ejaculates too soon. While researchers define premature based on the amount of time that passes from the beginning of sex to the ejaculation, it’s better for a couple’s relationship to base definitions on their needs and expectations. Clinically, premature ejaculation occurs when a man cannot maintain continual intercourse for more than two minutes. The average time of continual intercourse is around seven minutes. Basing a definition on a couple’s needs and desires rather than clinical mumbo jumbo will help set personal guidelines and goals for improvement.

Since there is no known physical cause for premature ejaculation, there is no quick way to remedy the issue. Talking with your partner can alleviate a lot of concern and frustration. For some, a new drug called Priligy, or Dapoxetine, may help treat this disorder. Trials are looking positive: men participating in a 12-week study experienced delayed ejaculation by up to four times their previous time. Alongside Priligy, men can also do pelvic exercises to help control the urge to ejaculate and to be able to exert more control during intercourse. Taking some simple steps and a little pill may be the solution to keep a couple’s intimate time passionate and steamy.
