When the weather gets warm and the days start getting longer, I look forward to Friday when my husband is off work and we can pack our dog, two days worth of food, a separate cooler full of beverages and a suitcase full of clothes into the old 1970s generation camper we have and head for the lake just a few miles out of town. We bought a security alarm systems in North Carolina so that we feel much safer when we leave.
Once everything is packed in and secure, we set the home alarm to keep our "real life" items safe, and we are off to a stress-free beach where there is no cell phone reception, neighbors, bosses or bothers - and therefore no stress.
The dog swims and chases his baseball, I sun and my husband barbeques.
The dog rests, I read and my husband throws horseshoes.
My husband and I take a ride in the four-wheeler while the dog runs merrily astride.
Occasionally we invite friends to play board games or cards (we never camp with electricity), but mostly we enjoy the escape from reality and pretend we have joined the realm of the idle rich and have no worries or responsibilities - which lasts just until Sunday. As the last bag hits the camper and the Jeep shifts into drive all worries of the real world quickly seep back into my mind.
