The story of model Gia Carangi who was known as the first supermodel to grace the fashion scene in the late 70's will be featured tonight on Oxygen. The title of the 1998 TV film is GIA which earned the Golden Globe award and being portrayed by Angelina Jolie together with co-star Faye Dunaway.
The name Gia Carangi doesn't ring a bell to your ears, but she was widely known as the first supermodel of her time. She took the first step of her modeling career at the tender age of 18 where she did one of her modeling stint with the late Gianni Versace. Possessed a combination of blonde hair with blue eyes, most people found her distinctly above the rest because of her ethnic looks.
So while her star started to shine, her downfall set in as she started taking drugs after the death of her agent and foster mom. Her addiction brought her career to a downswing and eventually she got afflicted with AIDS that caused her untimely death, holding the record of the first female personalities to die of AIDS at the age of 26.

That's probably why her name sounded so familiar, it's because of the movie Gia. She does look very pretty in these photos. Too bad she got addicted to drugs, and she died at such a young age too.
