Spices of Life

On certain occasions, we experience an extended droughts here in California and the unusual global warming has also contributed to heavy rains so the runoff problem is getting tougher sometimes.

However, summer is just around the corner and it means that lawn and garden watering will constitute almost 40% of the entire household water usage throughout the season. I believe it is essential to use rain barrels to gather the water and keep it when you need it in the duration of droughts to water the plants, washing your car to say the least.

Rain water barrels can help more homeowners to economize gallons of water during the dry season of summer. Preserving water can assist us in saving energy and money as well. Thus turning water from storm drain also diminish the effect of runoff to streams. Accordingly, rain harvesting is an effortless way to get a reliable supply of fresh and clean water that can be readily use outside.

Rain barrels for sale can vary in price range according to each size, style and features. You can inquire at your local store or garden center for their availability or you can check this site

I like this idea of conserving rain water too.

We are also doing this kind of similar storage. Really helps.

This is what I need a barrel for stocking rain water. Rain water is good for washing white t-shirts specially if our water is rusty, and yellowish. Rain water can make it white again.

I made a rain bucket out of a 10.00 Trashcan. So far so good.

Mine is not as fancy as this one, but it seems to do the trick...

I have step by step pictures if interested.

What a wonderful idea. Rain water barrels will be helpful in conserving water, especially in dry or drought-prone areas. The water could be used for a ton of things like watering the lawn, or washing the car as you said. We just have to make sure that the water does not get stagnant. As this will attract insects that are potentially harmful like mosquitoes, etc. Thanks!
