Spices of Life

{ Living Life by Ear }

I came upon this modest yet overwhelming guide in raising kids in a conservative way like teaching beliefs and values by setting a good example. This poem created by Dorothy Law gives parents a chance to discover their own parenting skills while raising kids with a certain, firmer, more empathizing hand.

If a child lives with criticism,
he learns to condemn . . .
If a child lives with hostility,
he learns to fight . . .
If a child lives with fear,
he learns to be apprehensive . . .

If a child lives with pity, he learns to feel sorry for himself . . .
If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy . . .
If a child lives with jealousy, he learns to feel guilt . . .

BUT

If a child lives with tolerance, he learns to be patient . . .
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns to be confident . . .
If a child lives with praise, he learns to be appreciative . . .

If a child lives with acceptance, he learns to love . . .
If a child lives with honesty, he learns what truth is . . .
If a child lives with fairness, he learns justice . . .

If a child lives with security, he learns to have faith in himself and those about him . . .
If a child lives with friendliness, he learns the world is a nice place in which to live . . .

WITH WHAT IS YOUR CHILD LIVING?

I love this poem sistah! I read it somewhere and it really a good one.

I agree with the basic sentiment, but there are personality quirks involved, too!

I'm always teaching my kids the common 'do not do unto others what you don't want others do unto you'.

mare! i will print it and post it on our mini nancy house! :)

nice poem

I love the poem girl, so nice...

I think with a hostile environment, it's not true that children learns to fight at all times. Sometimes a hostile environment can strengthen you or give you fear or give you insecurity or bitterness. Learning how to fight does not only come from hostile environment. It may be or it may be a combination of other factors such as rejection or insecurity.

thanks for sjaring this nice poem dear :-)

very nice poem indeed. i've read this for so many times, and yet, i still could read it over and over again. i am trying to have my child live with teachings to be a good citizen on earth. :) i have a post that has the same idea as this mommy umma. if u would care to read it, here's the URL:

have a wonderful weekend!

I've always like that one too!

Yes, i love those THOUGHTS/POEM. I made one post before about it and I also have that as my guide in my table when I was teaching in the Philippines. It is my guide too to control my temper in my classroom with 43 kids from 8am to 4pm.

The poet's name actually is Dorothy Law Nolte.
